This Award recognizes companies that demonstrate and practice outstanding corporate governance.  GraceKennedy Limited was 1st Runner Up and JMMB Group Limited and Scotia Group Jamaica Limited 2nd Runners up for their Corporate Governance practices. The JSE’s 14th Best Practices Awards was held at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on December 5, 2018. It was a grand and glitzy affair with décor and production by Main Event Entertainment Group Limited.

Mrs. Marlene Street Forrest, CD, JP, Managing Director of the JSE, in her welcome, stated that, “We are of the belief that the JSE Best Practices Awards pushes companies to not only apply and embrace standards applicable to best practices awards, but that it encourages them to apply best standards across their organizations. We expect also that best practices will improve workplace skill, reduce waste and foster greater efficiency in the use of technology.  To our listed companies and member dealers we say thanks again for making a market we can all be proud of as our position of being the best performing exchange in the world, to a large extent is as a result of you”.

Professor Neville Ying, the Chairman of the Best Practices Awards, encouraged all companies in Jamaica to focus on using International best practices. He said, “This is of paramount importance as we are now a power player in the global market. Significant evidence of this is Bloomberg citing the Jamaica Stock Exchange as the Best Performing Stock Exchange in the world so far in 2018. This is a continuing trend from the JSE being the Best Performing Exchange in the world in 2015, with returns of 233% over the last 5 years. The consequence of this is that the global spotlight continues to be on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.’
